***Great Western PFHA’s 2026 Year of the Horse***

To celebrate the Chinese Year of the Horse, we are implementing our own celebration with….GW’s Year of the Horse program. This is a fee base program with a chance to win cash back, while meeting new people and riding/playing with your horse anywhere you want. The program is open to both members ($25) and non-members ($50), to include a special introductory category called Rising Star (FREE), for those that have never been a member of GW but join in 2026. (Note: Contact me to receive the form.) The program will run from 1 March – 31 August 2026. The total amount of entry fees received will be shared amongst the top four teams; First Place team members will each receive 20% of the pot; Second Place team will each received 15% of the pot; Third Place team will each receive 10% of the pot; and Forth Place team will each receive 5% of the pot. The more teams that play….the bigger the pot.

Here is how it will work: Upon receipt of an entry form, names were placed in a bowl. We drew names for each 2-man team via Zoom on 25 February. (As GW is geographically huge, this will give participants an opportunity to meet others they might never have an opportunity to meet.) As team members probably will not even live in the same state, hours are recorded independently, but tallied together for team placement.

The competition will start on 1 March and end on 31 Aug. Utilizing the honor system, team members will record their hours ridden or doing ground work on their individual log sheet and submit to wbrad444@gmail.com at the end of each month. A running tab of teams progress will be posted on the GW website. Team members do not have to ride the same trail or ride on the same day for the hours to count.  Hours are earned individually, but count towards the team’s total hours. However, only rides posted on the GW website will count.

At the end of the program, the top four team placements will be announced at our GW Annual Membership Meeting. Date and location of the meeting will be announced at a later date. We hope you will have fun….and maybe win cash back at the same time. But remember….if you are having fun with your horse, you have already won!

Teams are as follows: Melinda Boomgaarden (Colton, OR) and Julia Grimes (Hamilton, MT): Irene Thola (Stevensville, MT) and Judi Bradbury, (Conner, MT); Shawn Deming (Hamilton, MT) and Carol McCoy (Lakewood, CO); Neila Whitney (Mollala, OR) and Char Davis (Florence, MT); Jan Gibson (Emmitt, ID) and Kenley Brunsdale (Lakewood, CO); Janice Stark (Joseph, UT) and Linda Holzer (Athol, ID); Michelle Sidun (Rawlings, WY) and Bob Davis (Florence, MT.
